Megan Hartmann fell in love with belly dance in the summer of 2005 after attending a belly dance class with her mother.
After taking her first tribal fusion class and watching videos of Rachel Brice, Megan fell in love with the tribal fusion
style of belly dance, and has pursued that stylization primarily.
Megan continued to belly dance when she returned
to college at Truman State University. In the fall of 2006, Megan co-founded the University of Middle Eastern Dance and taught
tribal classes there for two years.
After joining the Dragonflies Contemporary Belly Dance Company in 2007, Megan
found her two most influential teachers: Kandice Grossman and Suhaila Salimpour. Thanks to their invaluable direction, Megan
became Level I certified in the Suhaila Salimpour format July 2008 and was a finalist at the Bellydance Superstars open auditions
in Los Angeles in May 2008. Megan is currently pursuing her Level II certification in the Suhaila Salimpour format.
Megan
has studied with many other esteemed belly dance instructors, including Rachel Brice, Kami Liddle, Zoe Jakes, Samantha Hasthorpe,
Moria, Jillina, and Petite Jamilla. She has performed in Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis and all over the Midwest.
Drawing
from her knowledge of ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, lyrical and African dances as well as from her many years in the theater,
Megan creates unique choreographies that are rooted in the solid foundation of the Suhaila format.
Megan classifies her style of belly dance as "Contemporary Fusion" because of its mix of modern belly dance and other
contemporary dance forms like hip hop, popping and locking, jazz and the Suhaila format.
In February and March 2009, Megan will be touring the U.S. with the Bellydance Superstars as a merchandise salesgirl.
She hopes to train extensively with the group and is hopeful that this job will turn into a dancing position with the company.
